Stop Motion Biscuits

While hanging out with some friends this weekend, we decided to follow through with one of our silly, impromptu ideas.  I had mentioned that I really wanted to work with stop motion animation, but was searching for a subject/story.  After a few drinks, we decided to make a short film about cannibalistic biscuits.

I was excited to apply what I learned from my first attempt at using my new intervalometer.  This time I learned that I really have to secure the tripod (it got bumped 3 times and took quiet a bit of adjusting to get lined back up again).  So enjoy my latest stop motion attempt!

Intervalometer Love

So my new Intervalometer (fancy camera remote) came in the mail yesterday!  I wanted to test it out, so I set it up to take a picture every 15 seconds while I did a quick little echo painting.  The video below is the result.  I'm really happy with how it worked.  But now I know a few changed I have to make next time (like make the camera is on full manual mode, to stop that changing exposure levels).

I want the remote

So after researching apps that could take time-lapse footage with my iPod touch I thought to myself...

Wait a minute.  I have a gorgeous new Canon DSLR camera and I'm trying to figure out how to take time-lapse footage with the crappy >1 megapixel camera in the iPod touch?!

So I stopped researching apps and started researching remotes.  I found (what I think is) a pretty good one and ordered it.  When that shows up, play time!

An experiment with time-lapse

I love time-lapse photography as well as stop-motion animation.  For my next project, I definitely want to do some sort of stop-motion animation short film, but I still haven't worked out the details.

In the mean time I really want to do a small time-lapse experiment.  I have done time-lapse before, but I did it the hard way... I carried my camera around on a tri-pod, wore a watch and at planned intervals I physically pressed the shutter button.  Now I have an iPod touch that I can download any "app" that you could use on an iPhone, iPad or Android smart phone.

I think I have a time-lapse app on here, but I'm also open to suggestions if anyone has any time-lapse apps that they love (or hate!)?  I'm even willing to pay for an app, if someone tells me its a really good one.

The thing about cloaks...

So I've been reading The Name of the Wind by Patick Rothfuss and last night I read this paragraph about how awesome cloaks are.  I makes me want to make another one...

"Now let me say this: when you're traveling, a good cloak is worth more than all your possessions put together.  If you've nowhere to sleep, it can be your bed and blanket.  It will keep the rain off your back and the sun from your eyes.  You can conceal all manner of interesting weaponry beneath it if you are clever, and a smaller assortment if you are not.
"But beyond all that, two facts remain to recommending a cloak.  First, very little is as striking as a well-worn cloak, billowing lightly about you in the breeze.  And second, the best cloaks have innumerable little pockets that I have an irrational and overpowering attraction towards."
